Celebrate 10 Years of “Friends & Beer” with New Year-Round Lager: Carolina Feather

Legion Brewing Founder Phil Buchy Returns to the Brewhouse

Legion Brewing is proud to mark its 10th anniversary with the return of founder Phil Buchy to the brewhouse and the launch of a new year-round beer: Carolina Feather—a crisp, easy-drinking lager that pays tribute to Legion’s roots and the state that made it all possible. Buchy, who founded Legion in 2015 with a vision of bringing people together over quality craft beer, rejoined the brewing team to create Carolina Feather—a modern revival of a gold medal–winning North Carolina lager brewed with local malt and non-GMO grits.

“Returning to the brewhouse felt like coming home,” said Buchy. “This beer honors the people, the process, and the pride we’ve poured into Legion over the past decade—and everything we love about North Carolina.” Brewed with malt from Carolina Malt House in Cleveland, NC, and grits from Old School Mill in Albemarle, NC, Carolina Feather is clean, refreshing, and full of character. Lemon Drop hops add a hint of citrus on the finish, making it an approachable everyday beer with a true taste of home.

The brew day also happened to fall on the 4th of July—so the team turned it into a full-on Grits Party. With leftover grits from the brewing process, they fired up the grill for breakfast bowls and kicked off the holiday weekend the Legion way: good food, great beer, and even better company. The first public tapping of Carolina Feather took place during Legion Night at the Charlotte Knights on Monday, August 12 at Truist Field. Attendees will be the first to raise a glass of the new lager while enjoying baseball, community, and celebration in the Queen City. Carolina Feather will begin rolling out in Legion taprooms and across North Carolina retailers this summer as a permanent addition to the brewery’s core lineup.

The 10-year celebration continues throughout 2025 with new beer releases, community events, and the beginning of Friendsgiving: for Friends & Beer—a weeklong fall festival hosted across all Legion locations.
