10 Years of Legion Brewing – A Note from Phil
By: Legion Brewing Company

Fueled by Community, Gratitude, and Great Beer
Ten years ago today, Legion opened its doors with a simple idea: bring people together over great beer and a shared sense of belonging. What began as a dream in Charlotte — fueled by long nights, early mornings, and a deep belief in community — has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’re filled with gratitude for everyone who helped make Legion what it is today.
From the beginning, Legion was never just about beer. It was about creating welcoming spaces where neighbors become friends and conversations flow as easily as the pints. Our first home in Plaza Midwood quickly became that kind of place — a neighborhood gathering spot where familiar faces met new ones and where the taproom felt like an extension of the community itself. Seeing that space come to life confirmed what we hoped from the start: when you build with purpose, people show up.

Where Good Became Great
The early days were scrappy. We brewed, cleaned, poured, fixed, and repeated — often all in the same day. There were plenty of challenges and more than a few lessons learned the hard way. But there were also moments of momentum, like watching guests discover beers that would become Legion staples. Juicy Jay, with its bright hop character, quickly found its following. Penguin Pils became a go-to easy drinking pilsner for many, while Supernova earned its place as a year-round favorite. Those beers didn’t just fill glasses — they helped define who we were and what we stood for.
As Legion grew, so did our footprint. Opening South Park allowed us to bring the Legion experience to a new part of the city, while staying true to the hospitality and quality that got us here. The addition of Trolley Barn Fermentory & Food Hall gave us room to explore creativity in new ways — from experimental beers to food and events that bring people together under one roof. Lastly, West Morehead became our showcase production facility and taproom, which was necessary due to Legion’s growth. Each location has its own personality, but they’re all connected by the same purpose: to create spaces where everyone feels welcome.

To Our Customers, Distributors, and Partners… Thank You
Growth hasn’t always been easy. Expanding thoughtfully, staying consistent, and navigating an ever-changing industry has challenged us in new ways. Through it all, our community has stood by us — showing up, offering feedback, and trusting us to keep pushing forward. That support has meant everything.
None of this would be possible without our team. Legion is built by passionate people who care deeply about what they do. From brewing and cellar work to front-of-house hospitality and behind-the-scenes operations, this team brings energy, creativity, and heart into everything we offer. Many have grown alongside Legion, helping shape our culture and carry our mission forward. We’re incredibly proud of them.
Most of all, thank you to our customers, neighbors, distribution and retail partners, vendors and friends. You’ve made Legion part of your routines and your stories. You’ve turned our taprooms into community spaces that feel alive and personal. And you’ve helped Legion beers find a spot in countless homes across the region. Your support over the past ten years has shaped Legion into what it is today.

Cheers to 10 Years
As we look ahead, we’re excited for what’s next — new ideas, new beers, and new ways to serve the Charlotte community we love. Our mission hasn’t changed: to build community, one beer at a time.
Here’s to ten years of Legion — and to many more moments shared together.
